A Prototype for A Prototype the project deals with an existing school in brooklyne whose exact same blueprint has been used for 6 schools around new york city. over decade ago, the school was closed due to its bad performance.
the current school is a scanned school, which means that every student has to get checked before entering the school. the student can not leave the school until the end of school time. the new proposal is offering a new entrance area. every student is entering at the same point. once the student is scanned, he enters a sequence of open courtyards. the ground floor is entirely dedicated to shared recreational program such as an auditorium, a cafeteria and a library. three staircases lead from the ground floor to the second floor. on the second second floor the student will enter one of the seven units. the entire circulation runs now within the unit, and ends on the rooftop in the so called foyer space. the rooftop, as the ground floor, is offering a variety of shared educational programs such as an art-, music-, geography-, biology room. while the corridor space within the units is reduced to a minimum, the last floor connects back to the inner courtyards through an open air corridor. the latter is connecting all seven units with the shared educational program. the school holds around 110 classrooms and can fit up to 2500 students .
