Fightclub the project breaks with conventional approaches in architecture. It primarily deals with the negative space, the space left free in the built environment.
In this work the existing isolated backyard is apprehended as a stage set. By dividing the scene into a sequence of distinctive rooms, the proposed framing develops a temporality that unveils itself through the walk. A variety of cinematic stills are combined, each differing in atmosphere, speed and sound. The negative space is shaping the object. The latter is interpreted as a spacial DNA, an organic growth progressively taking over the room. Contrasting with the initial dead end of the vacant lot, the project derives the dramatic outside promenade into the interior room thus creating a looping effect. The inside masks a straight path, creating its own specific rhythm and opening on rooms characterized by their materials. The design of the object is purposely independent from its function, which came to be a fight club. The process offers a reflection upon methods of approaching and designing cities.
